COVID, injuries decimate Bulldogs ahead of Brisbane clash

Canterbury have been decimated by injuries and COVID and will likely need special dispensation from the NRL in order to field a team against Brisbane.

The Bulldogs sent four players for PCR tests on Wednesday morning after registering positive RAT results ahead of the clash with the Broncos at Suncorp Stadium on Friday. Sources with knowledge of the situation have told the Herald that playmaker Jake Averillo is among the trio in doubt.

It is a further setback given the club is already missing Raymond Faitala-Mariner, Matt Dooret, Braidon Burns, Jack Hetherington, Paul Alamoti and Chris Patola.

“COVID and injury issues @NRL_Bulldogs this morning,” tweeted Canterbury supremo Phil Gould.

“Players have been sent for PCR tests to confirm RAT results. We will be applying to NRL for exemptions to fill out player quotas for this trip to Brisbane. The world these days.

“Bulldogs used 22 players in first 6 rounds. This week club struggled to name 24 players who are available … Several of the named 24 are also unavailable.”
