Life longevity may seem beyond one’s control, but many healthy habits may lead a person to reaching a ripe, old age. These include exercising, zithromax generic prices getting enough sleep and limiting alcohol intake. Taken together, these habits can boost a person’s health and put them on the path to a long life. There is another healthy habit one should try and incorporate into their diet which is backed by science and promoted by health advocates. What is it?

Hibiscus has been used for centuries by different cultures as a remedy for several health conditions.

The Egyptians used hibiscus tea to lower body temperature, treat heart and nerve diseases, and as a diuretic to increase urine production.

Africans used hibiscus tea to treat cancer, liver disease, and cold symptoms.

Today, hibiscus is popular for its potential to reduce high blood pressure, lower cholesterol, reduce risk of Alzheimer’s and help to increase longevity.

A study published in the National Library of Medicine, hibiscus use and how it prolongs a person’s lifespan was analysed. 

The study noted: “Hibiscus sabdariffa L. is commonly used as an ingredient for herbal teas and food supplements.

“Several studies demonstrated the beneficial effects of Hibiscus sabdariffa L. extracts (HSE).

“HSE treatment resulted in a prominent extension of lifespan (up to 24 percent) and a reduction of the age-dependent decline in locomotion. 

“Our results demonstrate that HSE increases lifespan.”

Lowers blood pressure

Several studies have found that hibiscus tea may lower both systolic and diastolic blood pressure.

In one study, 65 people with high blood pressure were given hibiscus tea or a placebo.

After six weeks, those who drank hibiscus tea had a significant decrease in systolic blood pressure, compared to the placebo.

Antioxidants help fight free radicals in the body, which can damage collagen – causing skin dryness, wrinkles and premature ageing. It is also a source of protein, a building block of the skin, and is anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial.

Aduna hibiscus is a source of calcium helping to support the normal function of digestive enzymes in the gut.

It is also a source of iron helping to support immune function in the body and for the formation of red blood cells which transport oxygen around the body.

This keeps the immune system healthy and boosts longevity.

Reduce Alzheimer’s risk

Health experts have found that hibiscus contains therapeutic interventions which could help prevent Alzheimer’s disease.

The drink is known to help lower neuroinflammation, improves spatial memory, and has an anti-diabetic effect protecting against Alzheimer’s disease as glycaemic control can contribute to Alzheimer’s pathology.

The research covered in papers is further evidence that food and drinks can truly be the best medicine and by drinking a simple cup of hibiscus your risk of dementia or Alzheimer’s is significantly reduced.
