“College GameDay” will return to the ACC once again in Week 3 of the 2020 season, the final college football Saturday before the Big 12 and SEC begin conference play.
The “GameDay” crew will set up shop in the Cardinal Stadium as No. 18 Louisville (1-0) hosts 17th-ranked Miami (1-0). Both teams began their seasons with Week 2 wins over Conference USA opponents: Miami 31-17 over UAB, and Louisville 35-21 over Western Kentucky. This will be the first true test for both teams, but it will be particularly interesting to see which of quarterbacks D’Eriq King and Malik Cunningham will out-duel the other.
King, considered one of the top transfer quarterbacks over the offseason, completed 16 of 24 passes for 144 yards and a touchdown in his debut against the Blazers, adding 12 rushes for 83 yards and another score. Cunningham had better success through the air (19 of 34, 343 yards, three touchdowns to one interception) but didn’t display quite the dual-threat ability, rushing 12 times for 24 yards and a score.
Here’s everything you need to know about “College GameDay” as it visits Cardinal Field at Louisville.
Where is ‘College GameDay’ location for Week 3?
Saturday’s episode of “GameDay” will be the third time the crew visits Louisville, Ky.: The first came in 2016, when the 10th-ranked Cardinals walloped No. 2 Florida State 63-20. The following season, No. 14 Louisville lost 47-21 to No. 2 Clemson.
Louisville is 2-2 all-time when among the featured teams on “College GameDay,” all of which were ranked matchups. Miami is 13-8, including 6-4 as the visiting team. The Hurricanes are also 10-5 in ranked “GameDay” matchups.
College GameDay’ schedule on ESPN
The “College GameDay” crew of Kirk Herbstreit, Rece Davis and Desmond Howard will preview Week 3’s college football action live from Louisville. Lee Corso, who is at greater risk should he contract COVID-19, has a remote office set up in his home. The game will be broadcast on ABC with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m. ET.
Potential Week 4 site locations include the ACC rivalry between Florida State and No. 17 Miami in Miami Gardens, Fla.; the ranked SEC matchup between No. 23 Kentucky and No. 8 Auburn in Auburn, Ala.; and the all-Texas matchup between No. 9 Texas and Texas Tech.
Who is the guest picker on ‘College GameDay’ for Week 3?
“GameDay” typically doesn’t announce its celebrity guest picker until later in the week. That said, two choices stand out above the others. One is Donovan Mitchell, a former Louisville basketball star whose Jazz team was bounced from the first round of the NBA playoffs. Another is former Heisman-winning quarterback Lamar Jackson; the 2019 NFL MVP would be a fan favorite to appear on the show. The Ravens are traveling to their Week 2 opponent in Houston, though it wouldn’t be overly difficult for Jackson to do a quick video call if he elected to appear.
Clemson at Wake Forest odds
Sports Insider lists Louisville as a 2.5-point favorite over the Hurricanes. Sporting News’ Bill Bender also picks the Cardinals in this matchup, picking them to win 34-30 and cover the spread.
