UFC’s Chimaev refuses to go on Mike Tyson pod as he "doesn’t like what happened"

Up-and-coming UFC star Khamzat Chimaev has revealed the brutal reason why he rejected the chance to go on Mike Tyson's podcast.

Tyson's Hotboxin' podcast has become a huge draw online, attracting guests including Khabib Nurmagomedov and Oscar De La Hoya.

But Chimaev, 27, who is one of the hottest properties in UFC at the moment, didn't want to join that star-studded list due to Iron Mike's chequered past.

He explained his reasoning on The Hustle MMA Podcast, where he also reaffirmed his respect for Tyson both as a fighter and a person.

"Ali [his agent] said Mike Tyson also wants something, but I didn't go," Chimaev revealed.

"I didn't have much desire to do that. As a fighter, an athlete, I really like him.

"But I don't like what all happened with him – the violence, the pills, the marijuana, then Muslims, it's strange.

"But I still respect him. Both as a fighter and as a person.

"He went through a lot of things and because of this, he broke down, did a lot of bad things.

"And no one knows what will happen to me. It can happen to anyone.

Just how good is Khamzat Chimaev? Let us know in the comments section.

"A good, normal person, but something happens and you end up in a mental hospital.

"I don't judge anyone, but I just didn't want to go."

Chimaev, also known as 'The Wolf', has enjoyed an unbeaten start to his UFC career.

He is currently 11th in the welterweight rankings after winning his first four fights in the octagon.

After his third fight, he contracted Covid-19 and feared he may have to retire due to lung problems.

But he recovered and returned to UFC ten months later to beat Li Jingliang in dominant fashion at UFC 267.

In the aftermath of his victory he went on Twitter and called out both Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz.

Despite being just 4-0, Hall of Fame legend Michael Bisping wants to see Chimaev take on the best as soon as possible.

"He talks a lot of crap, but he backs it up every single step of the way," Bisping told talkSPORT.

"He has finished everybody in the UFC; four fights in the UFC and he has only absorbed one significant strike and it wasn’t even a significant blow!

"It was John Phillips basically telling him to get off! It really is unbelievable, what a rise. I wasn’t sure, I was on the fence and thought Li Jingliang would give him a tough fight and then he does that.
