‘The President’s calling?’ Trump stuns UFC star Colby Covington on live TV

Former UFC interim welterweight champion Colby Covington demolished Tyron Woodley with a fifth-round stoppage in the main event on Sunday’s Vegas fight night.

Then he delivered one of the most bizarre post-fight interviews in history as he was interrupted by a phone call from US President Donald Trump.

16-2 Covington – a massive fan of Trump – was mid-sentence talking about the result when a member of his team handed him a phone with Trump on the line.

‘The PRESIDENT is calling!?’

UFC: Colby Covington had just taken down Tyron Woodley in a grudge match and to make things ever sweeter he received a call live on air from Donald Trump!

Covington said: “Oh the POTUS (President of the United States) is calling me! Mr President!”

Then, while wearing a signed red Trump hat, Covington turned on his phone’s speaker so everyone could hear the President speak.

Trump told him: “You are a great fighter, man. Outstanding. You make it look so easy. I don’t know how you do that. Congratulations.

“I wanted to watch that fight tonight. I wanted to watch it. You were great.”

Covington said: “Thankyou so much Mr President. You gave me the dragon energy when you shook my hand on Sunday at your rally. It doesn’t matter if King Kong was in front of me, I was not going to lose after getting to shake your hand.”

“You weren’t going to lose,” Trump replied.

The President continued: “He’s a strong looking guy, he’s a tough guy. He’s a great fighter, he’s a champ. And that was easy work, relatively easy work for you. I’m proud of you man, I’m proud of you.

“I just made a big speech, I had 35,000 people. I said ‘I’ve got to get home now and watch Colby.’”

It’s not the first strange interaction between the duo. The pair met up last weekend and filmed a video for social media in which Covington appeared to try and kiss Trump’s hand after a handshake, only to change his mind.

Covington also posted on social media after the fight, thanking Trump for his support.

Nothing makes me prouder than fighting for the people who fight for America!!! THANK YOU to all the brave men and women of law enforcement and the military!!! Thank You @realDonaldTrump for all the love and support!! The silent majority is ready to make some noise November 3rd!! pic.twitter.com/CazbUUnIiJ
