- Mike Tyson believes Jake Paul was a deserving winner of his fight last weekend
- The YouTube star defeated former UFC champion Tyron Woodley by decision
- Some fans argued that Woodley ought to have won and the fight was ‘rigged’
- However, Tyson has backed Paul and insisted that he ‘loves’ the novice
Mike Tyson has insisted that Jake Paul was the deserving winner of his bout against Tyron Woodley after the YouTuber scored a split decision victory in Cleveland, Ohio.
Paul, 24, extended his unblemished professional record to four wins and no defeats last weekend after edging out former UFC champion Woodley over eight rounds at Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse.
The result has seen some fans raise concerns that the bout was ‘fixed’ in Paul’s favour due to the fact that Woodley, 39, failed to follow up on Paul after startling him in the fourth round.
Mike Tyson believes Jake Paul was a deserving winner after his victory over Tyron Woodley
The YouTube star, 24, extended his perfect record with a split decision win over his rival
However, boxing legend Tyson has opined that the result was just, before revealing that he ‘loves’ the controversial YouTube star.
‘Jake Paul won,’ Tyson told TMZ Sport. ‘Yeah, he (rightfully won). I love Jake Paul.’
Woodley, who had endured a four-fight skid before being released by the UFC, had developed a tendency to be trigger-shy during his losing run and it was that trait that blighted him against Paul, with the younger man outworking him.
‘Tyron Woodley did his best,’ Tyson added.
Some fans questioned the result with Woodley landing the more significant punch in the fight
However, Tyson backed Paul and says he ‘loves’ the controversial YouTuber-turned-boxer
The internet star featured on the undercard for Tyson’s return fight against Roy Jones Jr last year, where he knocked out former NBA star Nate Robinson.
Paul announced his retirement following his victory last weekend, with fans pouring scorn over the move. He U-turned on his retirement announcement a mere 24 hours later.
The 24-year-old has riled both the boxing and MMA communities since he began fighting ex-UFC stars in the ring. Paul has now defeated Ben Askren and Woodley this year, and is targeting a super-fight with Conor McGregor.
