Boxing pundits have questioned the authenticity of Jake Paul’s victory over MMA veteran Ben Askren on Sunday afternoon, many accusing the contest of being rigged.
Paul floored the former Bellator and ONE champion in the opening round at Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium, a powerful right hook ending the bout.

Askren attempted to get to his feet, but the referee waved off the fight as the wobbly boxer failed to compose himself.
But footage of Askren and his wife following the loss raised some eyebrows.
As Paul celebrated his emphatic victory, the broadcast coverage cut to a smiling Amy Askren hugging her husband as they exited the venue.
Former UFC heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier tweeted: “Wait a minute, did Askren get us all? Like this is some magician stuff … he wasn’t laughing on his way to the back was he? Come on, Ben.”
Congrats to Ben “the Askew” Askren for finessing that bag 💰💰💰
Prayers up to anyone who paid for that PPV 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻pic.twitter.com/xri1Kg2M0T

Askren later posted to Twitter: “Sorry world.”
The 36-year-old also retweeted Amanda Cerny’s post: “Good news is that you got that pay out $$$ just in time for the crypto dips.”
The former Olympian reportedly earned USD $500,000 (AUD $623,000) for the fight — plus a percentage of the pay-per-view bonuses.
“It’s probably going to be the biggest payday of my career,” Askren told Food Truck Diaries before the fight.
“I do have to have some type of monetary reward to take time out of my day to do this.
“They made me a nice offer, it was something I wanted to do anyway, so I said sure.”
Footage from Askren’s fight against Robbie Lawler at UFC 235 also resurfaced on social media after Sunday’s bout — the American copped repeated blows to the head in that March 2019 contest, but ultimately won.
But he couldn’t take one hit from Paul.

However, many boxing pundits rubbished claims the fight was rigged, citing footage of the telling blow as evidence.
MMA commentator Michael Stets tweeted: “You don’t get up from a knockdown if you are taking a dive. Good grief. Askren got lit up by Paul. He got back up to his feet. The ref did him a favor by stopping it because there was absolutely nothing positive that was going to occur had he allowed it to continue.”
Veteran MMA reporter Dave Doyle posted: “If you think that’s rigged, you’re dumber than a bag of rocks. Whether Askren took this seriously is a far more valid question.”
