UFC Lightweight Justin Gaethje has claimed that Conor McGregor broke his leg against Dustin Poirier because he 'drank too much milk'.
The Notorious One suffered the sickening break in the final seconds of the first round during the third instalment of his trilogy bout with the Diamond.
McGregor threw a kick at Poirier's leg, however, he snapped his tibia and fibula upon impact with the Diamond's calf.
And Gaethje, who is in the same weight class as Poirier and McGregor, has offered his own bizarre reason as to why the Irishman suffered the gruesome injury.
"My take would be that he is hanging around LA drinking too much soya milk," he told ESPN.
"And there was clearly no obvious check that should have caused a break like that.
"It's got to just be a freak occurrence, or the guy has weak bones but I can't explain it and none of us can."
The Highlight, who is a former interim UFC Lightweight champion, was once linked to a bout with McGregor inside the octagon.
However, the fight never materialised, and Gaethje doesn't think he will get that opportunity again.

He continued: "In my mind, the ultimate goal was to beat Khabib [Nurmagomedov] and then Conor and that was worth the risk, so that was what I chose.
"But [fighting McGregor] could have been a possibility then, maybe. But I think the chances are [now] zero per cent.
"Because I think he'll fight, if once or twice [more], and it won't be guys like me.
"It'll be guys like Nate Diaz, Jorge Masvidal, you know, favourable match-ups."

Gaethje hasn't had a bout since his championship defeat to Khabib, but he is set to return to the octagon in November.
McGregor, on the other hand, is continuing his recovery, and he was recently able to put 50% weight onto his leg on an anti-gravity treadmill.
