The NBA 2K21 next-gen trailer features gameplay footage that looks so real it’s scary

With the NBA Finals wrapping up, it’ll soon be “NBA 2K” season.

With the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X hitting shelves in just over a month, gamers are looking forward to a whole new era of sports games, and the “NBA 2K” series looks like it is once again pushing the limits with its hyper-realstic footage.

It’s important to note that this isn’t a CGI trailer. It’s legit gameplay captured from a PS5 console as noted in the video.

Arguably the only character model who looks off in this video is of Warriors coach Steve Kerr, who looks like the love child of Gordon Ramsay and John Kreese from “The Karate Kid” fame.

Check out the side-by-side here of Zion Williamson from last gen to this. The detail is unreal:

Aside from that, the way the lighting hits players, tattoo detail, sweat glistening, it’s all more realistic than ever. It leads us to an existential question: Are we living in a simulation, and the video games are real?

Find out for yourself when “NBA 2K” for next-gen consoles starts rolling out on Nov. 10 and Nov. 12.
