When competing on one of the famous Open Championship links courses, the players are often battling against the elements to keep their ball in the fairway, especially against the usual gusting wind. A wayward shot at the championship is often a costly one, with thick grass, out of bounds and water hazards all often proving as ball magnets for the world’s best.
One place you often don’t expect a golf ball to fall though is in the bottom of a shopping bag, and this was once the case for two-time major champion David Graham. When competing at the famous event during his 25-year playing career, the Aussie found himself among the fruit and veg following an off-target tee shot.
Captured by the TV cameras, a confused-looking Graham made his way over to The Open gallery to find his wayward ball in the bag of a lady watching on.

The spectator in question was brought inside the rope, as she stood there with her bag open alongside a rules official. Fortunately for the 1981 US Open champion, he didn’t have to swing past the bread and milk to get his ball out, after he was given a free drop of relief back onto the playing surface.

Graham was then seen reaching his hand into the bag to retrieve his ball, before finding a spot to get himself back into the hole. The famous four-day tournament has served up many a funny moment throughout its 150-year history, and this year’s tournament has proved no different.
One moment that has had golf fans chuckling already this year, is 2017 Open champion Jordan Spieth enjoying an ice cream whilst out on the course. The American star was enjoying the sweet treat during a practice round at the famous links course on Wednesday, however Spieth's plan of action to eat the ice cream has left those watching on with ‘brain freeze’.
Looking to get it down quickly, the former Champion Golfer of the Year took a number of quick bites of his ice-cold snack, which has bizarrely caused a stir with golf fans on social media. One fan – user @comoshane wrote on Twitter: “I got brain freeze watching this.”
Whilst another in @MrJohnnypeanuts added: “Going at it like he’s never seen I’ve cream before! Either that or really worried the wind was gonna take it away.” Spieth will get his hunt for a second Claret Jug underway this afternoon, when he takes to the first tee at 3:10pm alongside Jon Rahm and Harold Varner III.
